Summary
[edit]DescriptionGundestrup Cauldron.jpg |
pictured with the focus inside the cauldron. this cauldron was probably made between 150-0 BCE. the figures are boldly embossed and decorated with carefully punched patterns. this technique flourished among the thracians, who lived in the area that is now bulgraia and romania. the cauldron looks like thracian silver work in style. however, several of the objects depicted are celtic - the helmets and the celtic war trumpet (carnyx). it is most likely that the cauldron was made where celtic and thracian peoples lived close together, probably in southwestern romania or northwestern bulgraia. it is not known how this work reached denmark. national museum, denmark |
