Oligochaete worm from the subfamily Phallodrilinae (family Naididae) that does not have a gut but instead obtains its nutrition from endosymbiotic bacteria. Specimen from coastal coral reef sediments off Okinawa, Japan. Footage acquired by Brandon Seah at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Marine Science Station (OMSS) in Nov 2017. Fieldwork was performed by Yui Sato and Brandon Seah, while employed at the Dubilier lab, Max Planck Institute of Marine Microbiology. |
