Deutsch: Am 14. Oktober 1914 fand unter großer Anteilnahme die feierliche Beisetzung des Lehrers an der Oberschule zum Dom statt. Von Beginn des Krieges an stand er im Feld und hatte mit dem Schleswig-Holsteinisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 163 (7./163), in dem er als Offiziers-Stellvertreter stand, zahlreiche Gefechte in Löwen, Mecheln, Termonde und Noyon, ohne verwundet zu werden, mitgemacht. Als das Regiment am 2. Oktober 1914 in einer äußerst schweren, schon tagelang unter ständigem Granatfeuer behaupteten Stellung bei Laucourt stand, wurde er von Granatsplittern tödlich verwundet. Er starb auf dem Bahntransport. Sein Tod rief besonders in Lehrer- und Turnerkreisen große Trauer hervor.

Dès le début de la guerre, il était dans le field et avait avec le Schleswig-Holsteinisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 163, en où il était Offiziersstellvertreter, de nombreuses escarmouches à Löwen, Malines, Termonde et Noyon ont participé sans se faire mal. Le 2 octobre 1914, alors que le régiment se trouvait dans une position extrêmement difficile près de Laucourt, qui était constamment sous le feu des obus depuis des jours, il fut mortellement blessé par un éclat d'obus.
