Description

The world of this ladybird is like a vast, fantasy forest to her, but is just another ragweed to us! Our "Weeds" are beautiful forests worlds to millions of tiny creatures. This native ragweed (invasive in Europe) is hated by gardeners and people with allergies. It loves to colonize damaged and disturbed ground. Long ago, before WE created so much disturbed ground, ragweed probably fit more snugly into the environment and was actually used by aboriginal Americans for many things!

"Native Americans steeped the leaves and took the tea for fevers, pneumonia, and to stop vomiting and used it as a wash for hives and swellings. They applied the crushed leaves to insect bites and used the plant for toilet paper." www.kswildflower.org/flower_details.php?flowerID=486
