Title
Harness Pendant
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy heraldic harness pendant of Medieval date. It is shield shaped in form with an integrally cast oval suspension loop set at right angles to the plane of the plate and with a circular aperture missing its upper edge due to old breaks. The pendant carries an enamelled and gilded heraldic device depicting a lion rampant on a gilded background, possibly filled with black(?) enamel, surmounted by a bend of red enamel. This may be interpreted as: 'or, a lion rampant sable surmounted by a bend gules'. It measures 36.73mm in length, 21.73mm in width, 3.61mm in thickness and 8.98g in weight.

This is a heraldic harness pendant of Medieval date. The enamelling is worn, but if the lion rampant does indeed have black enamelling then it finds parallels in the arms of the Counts of Namur. It is likely to date to the late-12th or 13th centuries AD.
