Le buste de Notre-Seigneur: tout le jour tombe sur la tête, qui, vue de face, est claire & lumineuse, & d'un caractere si pathétique, qu'il est impossible de la regarder sans éprouver la plus vive émotion. Le reste de la figure lui est sacrifié; l'habillement est de couleur brun, & l'on n'apperçoit qu'a paine une partie des deus mains. C'est ainsi que dans ce tableau & dans les deux suivans, Rembrandt a rassemblé toutes les forces de son art pour produire l'illusion.’)
