Nederlands: Als 1 op de 40.000 mensen een nier doneert bij leven is het hele tekort aan nieren opgelost stelt Henk Smid, directeur ZonMw en nierdonor bij leven.

Nog altijd gaan per jaar in Nederland 150 dood door een gebrek aan donornieren. Uit recent Zweeds onderzoek blijkt dat een mens prima kan leven met één nier vertelt Peter Kooreman, hoogleraar gezondheidseconomie Tilburg University. Het Erasmus MC heeft sinds kort een website met alle informatie voor mogelijke donors:
