Summary[edit]

Description
English: Henriksborg (ancient monument 92 in the parish Kimstad) was constructed by Bishop Henrik Tidemansson during the second half of the 1500th century. Modern historians have named it after him. The castle should been the Bishop´s dwelling. On the plateau below the stone houses there were a number of wooden buildings protected by a castle wall. The entrance to the castle has been from the north. A forerunner to this castle lays ca 400 m to the northeast, where traces are still left of Munkeboda castle, named as the Bishop of Linköping´s property in 1178. Henriksborg was destroyed by a fire, probably during the disturbances in 1495, when civil war broke out between the bishops of Linköping and Uppsala on the one hand, and the lord procetor Sten Sture on the other. Bishop Brask rebuilt the castle east of Motala Stream where Norsholm´s old estate now lies. During the Reformation Munkeboda was conviscated by the Crown.
