Description
English: Hez Houston Ray (1932–2020) was an American retired schoolteacher. Originally from Bonham, Texas, Ray came to Alaska to study at the University of Alaska and stayed in Fairbanks afterward. Ray was a physical education teacher at Lathrop High School for many years. He is best known for his advocacy efforts on behalf of the Fairbanks sporting community, especially his firsthand lobbying of Wally Hickel, then governor of Alaska, to move a World War II-era hangar from Tanacross to Fairbanks, creating the Big Dipper Ice Arena. Ray's autobiography was published in 2014.
