Description

Among the survivors is Masanori Nakashima, who recalled the day his city and home was destroyed in an instant. "My father despite suffering many burns had arrived home first. He took my two older sisters and younger brother all of whom had been greatly injured to the air raid shelter. They couldn't speak, or see, or drink water. In sorrow I just wanted their pain and suffering to stop. The surrounding mountains burned bright red throughout the night. I collected scattered pieces of wood and cremated the bodies of my mother and younger brother. Considering all those people who passed away without knowing where there relatives were I felt some comfort being able to say goodbye to mine. Five days later my two older sisters and younger brother took their last breaths."
