Title |
Hoard of Henry II 'Cross and crosslets' (Tealby) pennies |
||
Description |
English: A hoard of 14 Henry II 'Tealby' pennies. All of the coins are of the cross and crosslets (Tealby) type of Henry II (1158-1180). Although coins of this type are relatively common compared to other twelfth century issues, they are still rare enough that there is no reason to doubt that a group of fourteen all found close together constitute a single hoard, rather than a series of independent random losses, especially as there is no other evidence (to the best of my knowledge ) to indicate the sort of extensive use in the late 12th century that might suggest multiple losses. As is typical for coins of this type, they are badly struck and only partially legible, but coins of this type were nevertheless produced in good silver, well in excess of the threshold stipulated by the Treasure Act (1996).
