Notes Paris, c1550. It is one of the at least three copies of the quarto Hours published in 1549 by Regnault for Claude Chaudière (Exposition de reliures, n. 56, pl. 12-see J. Toulet, L'école de reliure lyonnaise, p. 155, fig. 144 on Heures de Lyon, Lyons Library, ms. 5143), Lucien Gougy sale, n. 144, pl. 11 (the present one), P. Needham, Twelve centuries, p. 198-201 kept in the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, PML 15433). The first example is tooled with the inscription "A Ma Dame Duperon" , the second has the monograms "IHS" and "MA" for Jesus and Maria and also the initials "FB". A second gilt-block binding in the Gougy sale (lot 64, pl. 6) also has the "FB" initials. They are attributed to one François Bigot of Rouen. A similar panel stamp is kept in Carpentras, Inguimbertine Library (R. Caillet- M. Caillet, La bibliothèque Inguimbertine, p. 87, n. 318, pressmark Ms. 16); the same panel-stamp is reproduced in G. Fleury - J.-H. Pinault libraires, Paris, Beaux livres anciens & modernes, p. 84, n. 333, on Roland Furieux compose premièrement en ryme Thuscane par messire Loys Arioste, Paris, Arnoul Langelier, 1552; Livres des XVe & XVIe siècles dans leurs reliures originales, p. 69-70, n. 180, pl. 43 on Heures de Nostre Dame a lusaige de Paris, Paris, Pierre Joualt, 1550; Précieux livres anciens. Lundi 13 mai 1985, n. 105 on Heures à l'usage de Tournai, Paris, Simon Vostre, no date; Bernard Quaritch Ltd., A collection of facsimiles, n 46: on Heures a lusaige de Romme, Paris, Hardouin, 1515.
