Description |
English: Redmond, originally named Salmonberg, was settled in the early 1870s. By 1900 it had become a commercial center for local lumber mills and farms. Judge William White and his wife Emma opened the Hotel Redmond in 1899. With its 14 rooms, marble fireplaces and large drawing room, the hotel catered to wealthy guests who came to enjoy an evening of music or a month of hunting and fishing. President William Howard Taft was among the more famous visitors.
This photo shows the Hotel Redmond, probably in the 1900s. In the 1930s, the hotel and its surrounding property became the Redmond Golf Course. Seattle developers bought the course in 1978 and restored the old hotel building for use as office space. The building, at Redmond Town Center, is now known as the Justice White House.
