English: Hurricane "Matthew" makes landfall southeast of McClellanville, South Caolina (USA). The category 1 hurricane was moving toward the northeast near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion was expected to continue throughout 8 October 2016. On the forecast track, the center of Matthew was expected to continue to move near or over the coast of South Carolina, and be near the coast of southern North Carolina by midnight. Maximum sustained winds were near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Although weakening was forecasted during the following 48 hours, "Matthew" was expected to remain near hurricane strength while the center was near the coasts of South Carolina and North Carolina. |
