Description

Hypomyces polyporinus

  • Location: Bovec basin, East Julian Alps, Posočje, Slovenia.
  • Observation Notes: The Hypomyces polyporinus fungus is growing on the pore surface of several fairly old Trametes versicolor mushroom fruitbodies. Notice this fungus' Whitish color mat over the host’s hymenophore, sometimes extending over several adjacent host’s fruitbodies; on the most dense places it looks almost as a thin white crust; host’s basidiomata with no apparent change
  • Habitat:Warm deciduous tree forest, predominantly Ostrya carpinifolia, Fraxinus ornus, Corylus avellana, flat terrain, calcareous ground, mostly in shade, partly protected from direct rain, average precipitation ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 8-10 deg C, elevation 555 m (1.800 feet), alpine phytogeographical region.
