Title |
IOW-1D9A04 Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) to Medieval Zoomorphic Buckle |
||
Description |
English: A complete Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) to Medieval single-looped zoomorphic buckle (c. 1000-c. 1100 AD).
This Ringerike style frame is 'D'-shaped in plan, moulded at the front and mainly flat at the rear. The outer edge has a projecting knop that appears to be the snout of a moulded stylised beast's head. At each corner of the inner edge there is a rearwards facing 'beak' or mouth with an eye in the form of a pellet. These two features are similar. The bar has a length of 14.6mm, a width of 3.6mm and a thickness of 3.1mm. The complete copper-alloy pin has a tapering shaft and is rectangular in cross-section throughout its length. Its overall length is 14.7mm and the width at the loop is 3.0mm. |
