Title
IOW-547EE4 Medieval Spur Buckle
Description
English: An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy spur buckle (c. 1250-c. 1400).

This buckle is largely convex at the front and flat at the rear. The loop is incomplete due to abraded breaks. The circular area, about 14.0mm in diameter, has grooves at the front which form a six-pointed star. These grooves are inlaid with gilding. The pin is missing.
This buckle is generally corroded and has traces of a green patina. There is a line of casting sprue at the rear.
48.6 x 17.3 x 2.8mm. Weight: 7.33g.

A similar buckle has been published and dated c. 1250-1400 (Whitehead 1996: 33, ref: 182).
