IOW-54A393 Post-Medieval Clay Tobacco Pipe
Description
English: An incomplete post-Medieval clay tobacco pipe (c. 1730-c. 1780).

This undecorated pipe consists of a bowl and spur and part of the stem. The bowl projects forwards at an angle of about 45° and has a break at the rim. The spur is plain and has no maker's initial marks. Its stem is circular in cross-section. The surface is greyish buff and there is a transverse break on the stem. There is no indication of burning inside the bowl.

Length: 70.2mm; width: 21.6mm; thickness: 20.6mm. Weight: 16.12g.

A similar shaped clay pipe has been dated c. 1730-1880 (Oswald 1975: 40; fig. 4, ref: 22).
