Title
IOW-A5AD22 Medieval to Post-Medieval Annular Buckle
Description
English: An incomplete and misshapen cast copper-alloy annular buckle of Medieval to post-Medieval date (c. 1350-c. 1650).

This buckle has a circular frame with an integral central bar which is misshapen. The frame and bar are convex at the front and flat at the rear and the bar is 'D'-shaped in cross-section. The pin is missing. However, traces of iron staining on the bar and frame may indicate that the pin was made of iron.
Traces of a mid-green patina.
Diameter: 34.1mm; thickness: 2.3mm; width of frame: 4.2mm. Weight: 5.27g.

Similar buckles have been published and dated c. 1350-c. 1650 (Whitehead 1996: 24).
