| Description | Iniciada a sua construção já no século XX teve sagração em 1910. De arquitetura neoclássica integra elementos da antiga igreja que existiu no mesmo local. Do seu interior faz parte o mais rico conjunto de imaginária barroca do concelho de Valongo. Destacam-se os altares em talha dourada e imagens de santos de grande importância dada a sua antiguidade. De destacar também o teto da capela-mor com caixotões historiados com Mistérios do Rosário e cenas da vida do seu padroeiro, S. Martinho. As paredes interiores da capela-mor possuem painéis azulejares e o corpo da igreja possui paredes e teto pintados. Numa das sacristias encontram-se azulejos figurativos do séc. XVIII, dispostos aleatoriamente mas que deixam antever a relação com a vida de S. Jerónimo. O corpo da igreja possui planta retangular de uma só nave e tem torre sineira. A frontaria é revestida a azulejo branco com ornamentação figurativa azul com motivos religiosos. Arquitetonicamente inspira-se na igreja matriz de Valongo e esta por sua vez na igreja da Lapa, Porto. Nas imediações do templo encontramos cruzeiro, casa paroquial, centro social e paroquial, assim como a quinta fronteira, Quinta do Visconde, implantada em terrenos do antigo passal e agora pertencente à paróquia. <a href="http://www.cm-valongo.pt/frontoffice/pages/541?poi_id=43" rel="nofollow">www.cm-valongo.pt/frontoffice/pages/541?poi_id=43</a> |
