Description

A Igreja Matriz de Melgaço situa-se na freguesia de Vila, concelho de Melgaço, Portugal.

A igreja é um edifício Românico do século XII, primitivamente designado de Igreja de Santa Maria da Porta, por se encontrar junto a uma porta da muralha do Castelo de Melgaço.

Do traçado primitivo pouco resta, pois foi objecto de muitas remodelações ao longo dos tempos.

O portal principal é formado por duas séries de colunas, adossadas nas reentrâncias, com capitéis decorados com motivos vegetalistas.

A porta lateral norte apresenta uma arquivolta apontada, suportada por duas consolas, que sustentam um tímpano com uma figura de "leão" em alto relevo.
