Description

A Igreja Matriz de Nossa Sra das Candeias foi construída em 1681, em arquitetura estilo barroco. Devido ao terramoto de 1755, os interiores da igreja sofreram graves estragos, sendo reconstruidos mais tarde pela Ordem de Avis. A igreja encontra-se voltada para oriente e encontra-se assente em fortificações seiscentistas.

O altar-mor único elemento do santuário é composto por retábulo de talha policroma de fustes salomónicos sem guarnição.

No interior, a imagem da Nossa Senhora das Candeias austentando o estilo gótico-manuelino, feita em pedra ançã e medindo cerca de 1,20m.

Os três sinos da campana em bronze são vulgares, fundidos em 1946. De salientar alguns objetos sumptuários da irmandade do S. Sacramento da Matriz, sendo eles: naveta de prata do séc. XVIII; turíbulo de prata branca do séc. XVIII; cálice de prata dourada da época de D. João V; custódia de prata branca e dourada do séc. XIX; coroa de filigrana de prata dourada da época de D. João V e o par de galhetas de prata branca do séc. XIX.
