Description Foi construída, em 1542, por iniciativa de Frei Diogo de Lisboa, religioso que instituiu a Confraria das Chagas de Cristo, composta pelos mareantes da carreira da India e das outras possessões portuguesas do Ultramar. Destruída completamente pelo terramoto de 1755, foi imediatamente reedificada em estilo setecentista, traduzido numa modesta arquitectura. No interior destacam-se: a pintura sobre estuque, do tecto da nave central, atribuída a Francisco de Figueiredo, representando N. S. da Piedade das Chagas de Cristo; o retábulo, representando a Ascensão, e uma imagem da padroeira, localizados no altar-mor; o orgão setecentista do coro alto; e os silhares de azulejos da sacristia e de outra dependência, onde se podem observar, ainda, frescos e tectos apainelados com decoração.
