LENDA: «(…)he constante que andando una grande briga de mouros e catolicos no sitio por baixo donde hé hoje o convento dos frades sendo bem devatida vencerão os cristãos e vendo hum destes que fugia hum mouro da batalha a redia solta o foi segindo (sic) com a lança corria o mouro a refugiar-se na Igreja do Santo ja ferido e o christão sobre ele entrou o mouro na Igreja e o cristão ao chegar a porta se lhe pregarão na cantaria do lemear della as mãos do cavallo de sorte que hoje se vem ser as estampas das ferraduras cravadas nella, deseuce o catholico e prostrado de joelhos se omilhou e o mouro se converteo (…)», (Martins P.e Firmino Augusto, Folklore do Concelho de Vinhais, 1987). A Igreja de São Facundo é Monumento Classificado IIP – Dec. nº 95/78, DR. 210 de 12 de Setembro de 1978. A datação desta Igreja é incerta. O seu orago remete para uma origem pré-românica, eventualmente próxima dos séculos IX-X. Considerada a igreja mais antiga do Bispado de Bragança – Miranda refere a tradição que foi originariamente dedicada à Santíssima Trindade, o que atestam vários grupos de figuras esculpidas em granito em ambos os lados da porta principal. Num destes grupos vêem-se três bustos representativos da Santíssima Trindade; noutro, outros três, com um maior ao centro, para indicar a distinção das três pessoas divinas; do outro lado da porta vê-se uma única figura, que indica a reunião das três pessoas divinas num só Deus. O templo que subsistiu até aos nossos dias é posterior, presumivelmente do século XIII. Foi provavelmente remodelada, de acordo com um figurino tardo-românico, embora expressando algumas características simbólicas da arquitectura medieval transmontana, como o exagerado prolongamento vertical da fachada principal, para receber campanário de dupla sineira. Verifica-se na soleira da porta, as marcas que, segundo a lenda, caracterizam as ferraduras de um cavalo.
