Summary
[edit]DescriptionImperial Theatre Toronto.jpg |
English: The Imperial Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In this image, "The Godfather" is shown on the marquee as playing in the cinema. Originally the Pantages movie palace, designed by architect Thomas Lamb, the cinema was renamed the Imperial in 1930. After the 1972 showing of the Godfather, the building was converted to a multiplex called the "Imperial 6". After years of rancour between the Famous Players and Cineplex chains in the 1980s, each of which owned or leased a portion of the building, Cineplex restored the theatre to its 1920s grandeur, and it reopened in 1989 for live theatre productions (once again called the Pantages). In 2001, it was renamed the Canon Theatre, and later renamed the Ed Mirvish Theatre in 2011. |
