Description
English: Ter herinnering aan de stadsbrand van 1862.

Dit monument herinnert aan de grote brand van 7 mei 1862, die vrijwel geheel Enschede met de grond gelijk maakte. Het bevat drie bronzen reliëfs, die een beeld geven van de strijd tegen de vlammen en de inzet van de bewoners om de stad weer op te bouwen. Ook is er een plaquette aangebracht waarop de brand beschreven staat. In 1864 was de stad, mede dankzij hulp vanuit binnen- en buitenland, weer herbouwd. Het monument staat op de Oude Markt, recht tegenover de Grote Kerk.
