Title
Incomplete decorated cast copper alloy spherical “crotal” bell of probable seventeenth century date (AD 1600 - AD 1700).
Description
English: Incomplete decorated cast copper alloy spherical “crotal” bell of probable seventeenth century date (AD 1600 - AD 1700). Length 33mm, maximum diameter 35mm. Weight 27.58g.

The suspension loop at the top is broken and missing. On half of the lower hemisphere is also broken and missing. The upper and lower hemisphere is divided equally by a prominent horizontal circumferential rib. At either side of the position of the suspension loop, about half way down the side of the upper hemisphere, is a circular sound hole which is 7mm in diameter. Two sound holes about the same size in the lower hemisphere are integral with a sound “slit”. The upper hemisphere is undecorated. Decoration on the surviving half of the lower hemisphere is in the form of a “sunburst” design. Below which is a maker’s mark. However, due to corrosion it is not clear enough to be described. The bell is corroded overall and a patina has not survived.
