Summary[edit]
DescriptionInfrared colors of brown dwarfs.png |
English: I used Kirkpatrick et al. 2021 to find brown dwarfs between 9 and 12 parsec. Because of this the distance does not influence the brightness of these objects in this sample.
I used PanSTARRS near-infrared images (filters: i, z, y) at the top and unWISE mid-infrared images (W1 3.5 Microns, W2 4.6 Microns) in the middle. At the bottom I include additional information: spectral type, temperature in Kelvin and distance. As can be seen: The brown dwarfs get fainter and redder with colder temperatures. In the near-infrared they fade away at around 700 K for PanSTARRS. This makes mid-infrared telescopes so important for discovering Y-dwarfs. Brown Dwarfs here shown: 2MASS J17312974+2721233, 2MASS J18212815+1414010, WISE J203042.79+074934.7, WISE J170745.85-174452.5, WISEPA J085716.25+560407.6, WISE J120604.38+840110.6, WISEPA J182831.08+265037.8 Image Credit: PanSTARRS & unWISE |
