English: The International Campaign for the saving of the Nubian monuments, was launched by UNESCO in 1960. Following the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the monuments of the island of Philae are permanently flooded to a third of their height and are subject to daily fluctuations in the water level which eat away their foundations and threaten to bring them down to ruins. In May 1968, it was decided to dismantle and re-erect the monuments on the neighbouring island of Agilkia which is sufficiently elevated to be above the maximum water level. Here, preliminary work. In the centre are the temples of Isis and Trajan.
