Iron Age La Tène III Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age La Tène III brooch (c.100 BC-AD c.100), missing its pin. Overall, the brooch measures 39.1mm long, c.9.5mm wide and 17.3mm thick. It weighs 3.27g.

The brooch is fairly simple in design. The spring has two surviving complete turns of probably three original turns. The bow is oval in cross-section and has a single engrailed ridge along the front of its centre. The bow curves down towards the foot so that the head end and foot end of the brooch are at right angles to each other. The foot becomes flat and then curves to form the catchplate.

Similar brooches can be found in Hattatt (1989: p.290-1, Fig.149-50).
