Title
Iron Age La Tène I Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age (c.400-c.200 BC) La Tène I brooch, missing its pin, most of its spring and part of its foot. Overall, the brooch measures 55mm long and 8mm wide. The brooch is circular/oval in section throughout (excluding the catchplate). It is narrow at the head and tail (c.2.5mm wide) and swells to 8mm wide at the centre of the bow. Only one turn of the integral spring survives. Also the upturned part of the foot, which often contains an inlay, is missing. Decoration consists of a series of transverse grooves at either end of the bow. The catchplate projects from the right side of the foot and is damaged along its edge.
