Title
Iron Age brooch (three views)
Description
English: Fragment of Iron Age one-piece brooch, probably a La Tene I type. The bow is of flat cross-section and decorated with a central longitudinal wide shallow groove, flanked by longitudinal ridges, then on each side two narrower grooves alternating with ridges. The bow is broken across the middle (worn break). Its edges are mainly parallel, but have a convex curve towards the surviving end where they taper into the spring. This is partly obscured by soil and iron corrosion, perhaps indicating a separate iron bar. It has a wide loop to either end joined by a long chord running across the top. Length 25mm, width 10.26mm, thickness 7.92mm, weight 3g.

For similar grooves on the bow of the brooch, see BH-9A0EEC, SUSS-8D1B53, BH-245E96, etc. For the details of the spring, see parallels at WILT-C12224, WILT-C63446, etc. BERK-FE4291 and GLO-6EFDAC have similar decoration and also what appears to be an iron bar within the spring. All of these parallels are dated to the Middle Iron Age, c. 400 to c. 200 BC.
