Title |
Iron Age vessels |
||
Description |
English: Two Iron Age, Iron and copper alloy hemispherical vessels, probably cauldrons. Recovered (on the advice of English Heritage) during an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology Ltd.
Description - At least two vessels of very similar form but of different sizes. In addition, running beneath the larger bowl is a large iron object with a rounded terminal. Both vessels appear to have been hemispherical in shape and comprised a solid iron hoop at the top of the rim to which are attached two iron suspension rings, one on either side. The rim is supported by a thick iron band which is then laminated with the very thin copper alloy sheet which forms the bowl. Dimensions Vessel 1 Diameter 480mm Height 180mm Discussion The objects constitute treasure under the amendment to the Treasure Act 2002, being two or more base metal objects found together, of prehistoric date. |
