Summary
[edit]DescriptionIshinomaki Municipal Okawa Elementary School and hill behind the schoolyard.jpg |
English: Remains of Ishinomaki Municipal Okawa Elementary School and its schoolyard in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The steep wooden hill on the right side could have saved children's lives when in March 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake tsunami hit the school, but most of them followed instruction from teachers and kept staying in the schoolyard. The tsunami eventually reached the height of the sign on the hill's slope, leaving 56 dead and 18 missing.
