Summary[edit]

Description
English: Last week marked the dramatic rediscovery of the Ivory-billed woodpecker in the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas. The bird has been thought to be extinct in the United States for more than 60 years. But news came from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, The Nature Conservancy, and other members of the Big Woods Conservation Partnership that they had collected primary and secondary evidence of the bird's existence. The primary evidence consists of video footage, while the secondary evidence consists of seven eye-witness sightings and audio evidence of the Ivory-billed woodpecker. In this April 2003 ASTER image, the Cache River is the middle of the three north-south flowing rivers. The image covers 37.3 x 62.5 km, and is centered near 35.1 degrees north latitude, 91.1 degrees west longitude.
