J Lee, AIF waist-length jacket; scarlet with nav- black facing (collar and cuffs); fully lined; quilted body lining; pips missing badges- on lapel- embroidered bullion badges- flaming grenade and AUSTRALIA shoulder straps- both sides- button and embroidered bullion crown rank badge markings- maker's cloth label inside neck- HAWKES and CO., Piccadilly W. owner's name and number marked in ink- Colonel J. Lee 411 Museum number (W)1992 missing parts- shoulder straps should have additional two 'pips' either side denoting rank as Colonel

Notes Mess jacket - Colonel - Australia Military Forces, WW1 The wearer, Colonel J Lee, was probably John Henry Alexander Lee who served in the Anglo Boer War and is recorded as Hon Col AIF 13-8-1914. Also note that he was living in New Zealand at the time of his death in 1927. (ref- NZ BDM)
