Notes Dress uniform tunic, 35th Sikh Regiment Belonged to Colonel Thomas H Goldney, CB Thomas Holbrow Goldney (born 10.10.1847), son of Colonel Philip Goldney, Bengal Army, was appointed as an Ensign with the 11th Regiment, British Army, on 24th July 1869. He later transferred to the Bengal Staff Corps and rose to the rank of Colonel. In the late 1890s he was serving with the 35th Sikh Regiment, and took part in a number of expeditions- the Sikkim expedition (1888), the expedition to Dongola (1896), the North-West Frontier of India (1897) and the relief of Chakdara, and the Mohmand Expedition 1897-98, where he led an attack during the Siege of Malakand. He was awarded a CB in 1898. The Story of the Malakand Field Force by Winston Churchill quotes from a despatch from Major-General Sir Bindon Blood, K.C.N., stating that during the Siege of Malakand, "Colonel T.H. Goldney, 35th Sikhs, disposed and led the troops on the morning of the 2nd (August 1897) in the successful attack on the hill, since named after him, in a most judicious and satisfactory manner.” Note- the Officers’ Mess of the Sikh Regimental Centre at Ramgarh in Bihar, has a silver trophy presented to the 35th Sikhs by Lieut-Col T.H.
