Summary

[edit]
Artist
Jakob Ferdinand Voet
Description

"A portrait of Princess Clelia Cesarini Colonna (1655-1735), pastel chalk, on laid paper, 20,7x 14,8 cm, old mount fixed to support, framed, (Sch)

The attribution to Jakob Ferdinand Voet was confirmed by Dr. Francesco Petrucci on the basis of a digital high resolution photograph.

The present drawing with the portrait of Princess Clelia Cesarini Colonna (1655-1735) represents one of the rare portrait drawings by Jakob Ferdinand Voet, of whom only about a dozen portrait studies in pastel are known today. (comp. Petrucci 2005, pp. 310-312). The present study can be related to a series of paintings of Princess Clelia Cesarini Colonna by Voet (comp. Petrucci 205, pp. 216-218). A version which is lost today (comp. Petrucci 2005, Cat. 163c) and is very close to the present drawing shows the princess with the same hair style and the same robe. Comparable drawings by Jakob Ferdinand Voet are kept in the École Nationale Supérieur des Beaux-Arts in Paris (Inv. PM 1781, PM 1779, PM 1782, PM 2534; Petrucci 2005, pp. 310-312.

Literature: comp. Francesco Petrucci, Ferdinand Voet (1639-1689) detto Ferdinando de' Ritratti, Rome 2005, pp. 216-218, pp. 310-312.
