Français : Jan Paul Herczeg, 1947
« Paul J. Herczeg est né à Ujpest, en Hongrie. En juillet 1944, lui et ses parents sont parqués dans des wagons à bestiaux à destination du camp de concentration d’Auschwitz-Birkenau. Paul et son père passèrent le processus de sélection et furent menés plus tard au camp de concentration de Dachau, mais sa mère y laissa la vie. Dans le cadre de la section de la corvée de pommes de terre à Dachau, Paul a survécu en récupérant des restes qui étaient désignés comme rations pour les porcs. Son père n’eut pas cette chance : cinq mois de durs labeurs plus la pénurie de vivres et de soins auront eu raison de lui. Après la libération au printemps 1945, Paul vit dans plusieurs villes allemandes avant d’arriver au Canada en janvier 1948, dans le cadre du Projet des orphelins de guerre. »
