Manuscript letter

Archives Number: 1002/9.3-164#001

[Cover to letter from Colonel John Trumbull, with gift of Trumbull’s letter.]
[Addressed to: Mrs. Longfellow]
Cambridge, Dec. 11. 1856
My dear Madam, [note in pencil: Mrs. H.W. Longfellow]
Some time ago I promised you Colonel Trumbull's letter. It has recently come to light, and I now forward it to you. It is interesting as coming from a man, who made one of Washington's family while he occupied the house, - and the house itself seems to be its most appropriate place of deposit.
Very truly yrs
Jared Sparks
