Description

Farbige Porträtzeichnung von Justus Florian Lobeck als Student der Universität Königsberg i. Pr. aus dem Album amicorum von Lobecks Kommilitonen Wilhelm Schmiedeberg. Die von Schmiedeberg angefertigte Zeichnung wird durch ein von Lobeck eigenhändig eingetragenes griechisches Motto ergänzt (unterzeichnet: Just.[us] Fl.[orian] L.[obeck) / Albertina. / den 4ten Sept[em]b[e]r. 1836.). Die Quelle des griechischen Zitats ist Diogenes Laertios, Buch 6, Kapitel 5. Das dort dem Krates zugeschriebene Distichon lautet vollständig:

ταῦτ᾽ ἔχω ὅσσ᾽ ἔμαθον καὶ ἐφρόντισα καὶ μετὰ Μουσῶν
σέμν᾽ ἐδάην: τὰ δὲ πολλὰ καὶ ὄλβια τῦφος ἔμαρψεν.

Fritz Jürß (Reclam 1998) übersetzt es folgendermaßen:

„Das, was ich weiß und erdacht und mit Hilfe der Musen ergründet,
ist mein Besitz; bloßer Dunst dagegen der übrige Reichtum.“

Den Anfang des Satzes hat Lobeck leicht variiert („Τόσσ᾽ ἔχω...“), den zweiten Halbvers weggelassen.
