Title
KENT-17A146
Description
English: A fragment of a Roman copper alloy hair pin dating to the third or forth centuries AD. The head of the pin is in the shape of a cube which is covered by diamond and triangular shaped facets. The cylindrical pin extends from the base of a cube to a length of 5.8mm before terminating in an old break. There are no signs of decoration present on the surface. Cool (1990. p. 164) classes this form of pin head as belonging to Group 15 and notes that similar styles of pin head are also found in the Early Medieval period but theses are distinguished by a cordon around the neck of the head, which is not present in this example. The Pin is 15.9mm long, 12.0mm wide, 9.9mm thick and weighs 6.95 grams.
