Title
KENT-811752: Early Medieval Mount
Description
English: An incomplete Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy mount, triangular in shape and flat in profile, decorated with a gilded triple-strand interlace pattern and on an iron backing. There is evidence of perforation near the pointed end of the mount, and a possible lug near the wide end. The mount is in good condition but the reverse is covered in iron corrosion products. The mount is 32.7 mm long, 50.99 mm wide, 6.92 mm thick and weighs 21.71 g.

Kevin Leahy suggests that this a piece of Pressblech foil, attached to iron. He suspects that, given the iron, that it is a vandyke from a bucket, still firmly fused to one of the iron hoops. The Style II interlace on the mount dates it to the late sixth or seventh century. Another such vandyke can be seen on the database: SWYOR-1F2883
