Title
KENT-E3D152
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy phallic shaped mount, probably Roman in date c.43-410AD. The top of the mount has a broken circular attachment loop. The body of the mount is triangluar in shape at the top and circular at the bottem. The triangular shape has moulded decoration suggestive of pubic hair. The erect penis is central to the mount and the circular area is moulded in the shape of two testicles. The reverse is plain and concaved at the centre. In the Roman period the phallus symbol was thought to ward off evil and was widely used on amulets and as a protective charm.

Length 31.7mm, width of 24.9 tapering to 14.9mm, 2.2mm thick. Weighs 9.86g.
