Notes | Remnants of 2 pairs of clasps. Ms. title written on fore edge. Macchi states; Bound ?1550-1600. Simmern (Palatine, Germany), bound by V.S. binder, as the central panel stamp and surrounding Aldus fleurons suggest (I. Schunke, Die Einbaende der Palatina, p. XXVI). Simmern is located in the Palatinate Region, in which several binders who used cyphers were to be found, probably followers of this fashion, spread out in Cologne. The Vatican Library keeps a German Renaissance binding provided with the same panel stamp (I. Schunke, Die Einbaende der Palatina, p. 45, p. XXVI, shelfmark, Pal. IV 507). The bow behind the cross is unusual. | |||
