Title
LANCUM-2E12A7 and -2E3438: Roman vessel fragment, colour-coated ware
Description
English: Small, very fragile sherd of a vessel dating from the Roman period, i.e. c. AD43-410. The sherd is quite thin and made from whiteish fabric with very few inclusions. It is a colour-coated ware (black/reddish) which was either produced in the Nene Valley and imported or possibly (less likely) a local imitation. The sherd was part of a small cup or beaker with barbotine decoration (probably floral) on the outside. This sherd is a rim sherd without any visible barbotine decoration, but it joins another (see below) which displays part of a (vine?) scroll.
