Late Iron Age / Roman ring
Description
English: A probably Late Iron Age or Roman (200 BC - AD 410) copper alloy ring or bead, measuring 10.5mm in diameter (internal diameter 5.0mm) and weighing 1.47g. The ring/ bead is chunky and triangular in cross-section with a beaded rim flanking each edge. It is flat on the inside edge and max.5.6mm wide. Directly opposite to this widest part the ring/ bead is narrower (5.1mm) through wear (and/ or suspension) to the beaded rim.
A ring of this size and chunkiness may not be much use as harness (one might additionally expect to see two places of wear) or other functionality (eg. for suspending a purse or keys), suggesting it may have had a decorative use as a bead.
