Title |
Late early-medieval buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A corroded single-looped cast copper-alloy buckle frame of late early-medieval to medieval date. The buckle is D shaped. The outer edge is swollen with a thick circular cross-section. At the junction of the loop and pin bar there is a curved removal at the outside edge of the loop. The sides of the buckle extend slightly beyond this junction to form a small knop. Although the degree of wear is high it is likely that the terminals of the sides described above are zoomorphic mouldings in the form of beasts, albeit very stylised ones, who grip the pin bar in their jaws. The artefact is a dark-grey colour and may well have a raised tin level in the alloy. At one side there is some iron staining, possibly from the (missing) pin. There is a similar example on the database the PAS reference number for which is YORYM-667D71. |
