Title
Late medieval to early post-medieval cast lead bird feeder
Description
English: A damaged but complete cast lead bird feeder. It is open at the top and semicircular in section, with a flat back intended to lean against (or be attached to) a vertical surface. Two sub-circular punctures on the reverse perhaps relate to attachment. The object flares towards the top, expanding dramatically above a pair of longitudinal lines around two-thirds up its side. The lines are moulded in low relief. The base of the feeder is decorated with a circular band in low relief, 13.4 mm in diameter. At the base the bird feeder is 42.66 mm in length, expanding to 76.47 mm at the top. It is 46.2 mm tall and weighs 148.8 grams. There is a rich brown patina on the lower half of the feeder, extending to the top in some places. Similar examples are illustrated by Read (1995, 127-128; fig. 811) and Egan (2005, 129; ref. 617)
