Description

Le musée de Mayotte (MuMa) est, depuis septembre 2015, en préfiguration dans un bâtiment du quartier historique "le Rocher" de Dzaoudzi. L'édifice a été construit en 1845 pour servir de caserne aux militaires français en poste dans la colonie de "Mayotte et dépendances".

Le bâtiment, auquel le dernier étage a été ajouté en 1890, a abrité à partir de 1946, les finances, l'internat du collège, la poste et les archives. Le rez-de-chaussée a été réaménagé en 2014-2015 pour accueillir le musée.

Dans les années qui viennent, il est prévu que le musée soit définitivement installé dans l'hôtel du gouverneur (la Résidence) construit sur "le Rocher" à l'emplacement du palais du sultan Andriantsouly qui a vendu Mayotte à la France en 1841.

L'hôtel du gouverneur, actuellement inhabitable, est en attente de restauration par les pouvoirs publics.
